Testing & Monitoring — IEC 61850 GOOSE Simulation Tool
GOOSE Blaster
Simulates any GOOSE or Routable GOOSE (R-GOOSE) sequence for IEC 61850 IED testing — import SCL files, control every message parameter, and stress-test protection and automation logic before commissioning.

What GOOSE Blaster Delivers
Commissioning IEC 61850 substations requires confidence that every IED responds correctly under normal and abnormal conditions. Power system simulators, live-fault testing, and packet playback are expensive, impractical, or too inflexible to cover edge cases. GOOSE Blaster gives protection and automation teams direct control over GOOSE and R-GOOSE test traffic, without waiting for a real event.
- SCL file import (IEC 61850-6) automatically populates GOOSE control block definitions for one or more IEDs
- Fully configurable scenario editor with exact control over dataset values, VLAN ID/priority, sequence number, state number, simulation flag, and CB names
- Flexible transmission timing via customizable retransmission curves or precise per-message edits, including deliberately anomalous timing
- Simultaneous execution of multiple independent scenarios — once, for a fixed duration, or continuously — supporting automated regression testing
- Compiled, reusable scenarios for consistent testing across commissioning milestones, FAT/SAT cycles, and product certification
- Extends test coverage to Routable GOOSE (R-GOOSE, IEC 61850-8-2) for wide-area protection schemes such as C-RAS
Technical Specifications
GOOSE Blaster runs on standard PC hardware — no proprietary test equipment required — and supports the full range of GOOSE and R-GOOSE message parameters defined in IEC 61850.
- Protocol support: GOOSE (IEC 61850-8-1) and Routable GOOSE / R-GOOSE (IEC 61850-8-2)
- Configuration input via Substation Configuration Language (SCL) file import per IEC 61850-6
- Per-message control of dataset values, VLAN ID, VLAN priority, sequence number, state number, simulation flag, CB name, and transmission timing
- Customizable retransmission curves or individual per-message timing configuration
- Scenario execution: single run, fixed repeat count, timed repeat, or continuous — multiple scenarios simultaneously
- Runs on 64-bit Microsoft Windows (currently supported versions) on standard PC hardware, no proprietary hardware required
