Testing & Monitoring — IEC 61850 Substation Diagnostics

GOOSE Monitor

When GOOSE messaging fails in a substation, finding the fault is slow, manual work. GOOSE Monitor gives engineers a real-time visual dashboard of every publisher and subscriber on the network — showing exactly what's healthy, what has dropped, and where to look first.

SCD-Based
Auto-Configuration

Import an SCD file and the visualization configures itself in one step — graph layout, LGOS subscriptions, and addressing included — updating incrementally as devices are added.

"Focus On"
Mode

Right-click any IED to isolate its publisher and subscriber relationships, tracing faults upstream and downstream without losing context.

Rogue GOOSE Detection

Flags unconfigured GOOSE sources, duplicate publishers, out-of-sequence messages, and mismatched ConfRevNum values invisible to standard network monitoring tools.

What GOOSE Monitor Delivers

Large substations run hundreds of GOOSE publish-subscribe relationships between IEDs, all firing at 5–10 ms intervals. Standard network packet sniffers show traffic, not intent, and traditional tools require checking each device individually. GOOSE Monitor reads your Substation Configuration Description (SCD) file and renders every IED as a node in a live graph, color-coded by publish and subscribe state, connecting via a standard Ethernet trunk port with no protocol gateway or IED agents required.

  • SCD file import automatically configures the full visualization — graph layout, LGOS subscriptions, and addressing — in one step
  • "Focus On" Mode isolates a selected IED's publisher and subscriber relationships, tracing faults upstream and downstream without losing context
  • Rogue GOOSE detection flags unconfigured sources, duplicate publishers, out-of-sequence messages, and mismatched ConfRevNum values
  • Real-time LGOS (GOOSE subscription supervision) monitoring — node and edge colors update live with no manual refresh
  • Detailed data inspection on hover — dataset values, device mode, subscription status, quality flags, and timestamps
  • Integrated Syslog client exports TAL expiration events, Rogue GOOSE alerts, and other error conditions for proactive maintenance and security monitoring
  • Also captures R-GOOSE (Routable GOOSE) traffic, giving engineers both network-layer and IED-layer visibility in a single display

Technical Specifications

GOOSE Monitor connects to the network via a standard Ethernet trunk port and reads standard SCL configuration files — no protocol gateway or IED agents required.
    • Protocol support: IEC 61850 GOOSE and Routable GOOSE (R-GOOSE)
    • Configuration input via SCD and CID files (SCL per IEC 61850-6), with manual/spreadsheet import as a fallback
    • Subscription monitoring via LGOS (GOOSE Supervision Logical Node)
    • Remote logging via Syslog (RFC 5424)
    • Network connection via Ethernet trunk port (mirror/SPAN); multiple Ethernet adapters supported
    • Runs as a 64-bit application on Windows Server 2016/2019 or Windows 10
